Multicultural Night

We had a great turn out for yesterday's Multicultural Night.  Our class represented Italy.  My firsties really enjoyed learning a little bit about Italy this week.  They each got to make their own Italian flag, Italy's national flower (the white lily), and a gondola.  They did an awesome job helping one another, which was wonderful to see. A group of students from our school even performed on stage a traditional mexican dance.  One of our firsties, Mya, was in it and did such an AMAZING job. :-)

Burrrr!!!!!

It may be really cold out, but that doesn't stop my firsties from having a blast. All bundled up, enjoying recess with friends.  They are so stinkin' cute!

Getting Ready for Multicultural Night!

This Thursday evening is multicultural night here at school. Each class picks a country to learn about and then sets up a display for this school to see (and learn). My firsties (with a little help from me) chose Italy this year. They are very excited! We started by learning a few words in Italian. They were so cute! Then we learned a few fun facts about Italy. We make a little book to help remember some of the important facts. Then they each made their own flag of Italy. They learn what each color represents. Later this week the class is going to skype with Nunzia. She was a foreign exchange student from Matera, Italy that lived with me my freshman year of high school. She and I have remained very close over the years. She loves getting to see all my little firsties every year. The class will have an opportunity to ask her all kinds of questions. My firsties went home with another awesome QR Watch. This way they can watch a cool video about Italy when they get home. They are VERY excited. Check back soon for pictures of our skyping trip to Italy with Nunzia!

Veterans Day

My firsties did such a great job on their Veterans Day writing.  They loved getting to make paper soldiers to attach to their fabulous writing.  They all wanted to make their veteran look just like them!  So cute.

New Name and the Kids are Loving it!

Jay and I just got back from our honeymoon last week.  I have missed my firsties sooooo much!  Coming back to the classroom I was greeted with 21 BIG smiles and HUGE hugs.  They were saying my new name every chance they could.  They are doing a better job of calling me by my new name than I am!  The kids had filled the hallway around our classroom with acrostic poems they had written using my new last name.  My hard melted!  I absolutely loved it!
